Executive Summary

 

  • Progress continued on the Bond Programs in the month of August 2009.  Below is a summary of the current status of the Program’s projects.
  • New Memorial High School and Proposition 1

    New Memorial High School

    Architect: PBK

    Contractor: ALLCO

    Notes: Project is complete except for the “punch list” which is being worked on.

    CATE

    Notes: Installing roof and masonry is underway.

    Auditorium

    Architect: PBK

    Contractor: ALLCO

    Notes: Masonry work is complete, interior finishes are being installed. Project on schedule, completion is December 2009.

    Science Labs

    Architect: PBK

    Notes: Completed.      

  • Proposition 2

    Austin MS

    Architect: Perspectiva

    Contractor: Miner-Dederick

    Notes: Contractor is working on the scheduled six classroom renovation per month.  However, classrooms having problems with fan coil units are being changed out after hours as well as touch up painting and cleanup.

    Summary: A classroom is being renovated with an new fan coil unit installed. Newly renovated restroom at austin Middle School. Corridor with new ceiling ligiting, and sprinkler heads have been installed. New electrical service next to portable classrooms used for swing classrooms.

    Auxiliary Field/Track

    Notes: Project completed.

    Dowling ES

    Architect: STOA

    Contractor: Daniels Building & Construction

    Notes: The project at Dowling is almost complete. The school has been brought up to ADA standards and many other upgrades have been added. The new sound proof walls at the library are aiding in keeping noise down to help with students trying to learn. One step in improving safety is adding power to the projectors in the classrooms. They were powered with extension cords, but now they will have permanent power sources. The entire scope should be complete within three weeks except for the new air handler which will be installed over the Christmas break. The new air handler will be able to push the cool air throughout the building with great force to handle the harsh summers of the south.

    Educational Support Center

    Notes: Stud walls are up and sheathing is nearly complete. HVAC is being roughed in.  Fire Sprinkler is being installed. Electrical rough-in is completed and exterior stonework being laid.

    Football Stadium

    Architect: PBK

    Contractor: ALLCO

    Notes: The press box has been turned over to the district, with punch list items remaining to complete.

    Houston ES

    Architect: Perspectiva

    Contractor: Miner-Dederick

    Notes: Most of the renovation work will be discontinued soon until next summer.  When handrails for the new handicap ramps are received, they will be installed to replace the temporary wooden rails.  Electricians are working after hours to install power for the ceiling mounted projectors in classrooms.  Crews will be available from the other projects to respond to any problems that may arise during the year.

    Summary:

    • New handicap ramp with temporary handrails.
    • New transformer for electrical upgrade.
    • Classroom ADA sink and casework installed where corridor windows were eliminated.
    • New conference room in front office complex.

Maintenance/Transportation/Receiving

    Notes: No progress on new site

Old Memorial HS

    Notes: Construction Documents to complete on September 17th and bids will be due October 8, 2009.

 

 

Memorial 9th

Notes: Asbestos Abatement and demolition work is ongoing.  Bid proposals will be received on August 18, 2009 for the construction phase of the project.  Demolition is ongoing.  On September 8, 2009, the city inspection department approved the project for permitting and drawings can be picked up to begin construction.

Notes: Asbestos Abatement and demolition work is ongoing.  Bid proposals will be received on August 18, 2009 for the construction phase of the project.  Demolition is ongoing.  On September 8, 2009, the city inspection department approved the project for permitting and drawings can be picked up to begin construction.

Performing Arts

Architect: Smith & Company Architects

Contractor: Daniels Building & Construction

Notes: Design Development drawings delivered on 4/16/09.  Construction Documents are due in August.  Demolition is progressing on schedule.  East wing is down, west wing is almost down and foundation removal and backfill has begun.  Demolition is proceeding well, accounting for delays for abatement and inclement weather days it will be completed on time. Mold remediation is scheduled to start the week of August 10th.

Travis Elementary School

Architect: STOA

Contractor: ALLCO

Notes: The work at Travis is ongoing throughout the school year. The beams for the conference room will be done this school year. New casework for all the classes are being installed daily after hours until completed. The bulk of the work is scheduled for next summer. This summer the new floors were added, upgrades to the electrical system for the future a/c were done, and all hallway windows were replaced with sheetrock. Exterior work for the parking lots and electrical feeds are also in progress at this time. 

 

Tyrrell Elementary School

Architect: Perspectiva

Contractor: Miner-Dederick

Notes: The contractors are working on the foundations for the elevator and sprinkler pump room.  Handrails for the new handicap ramps have arrived and installation will begin.  Workers are responding to problems calls as needed.

Proposition 3

 

Washington Elementary

 

Architect: Harrison-Kornberg

Contractor: Daniels Building & Construction

Notes: All piers are drilled, cages set, and concrete poured.  Concrete crew still needs some recovery from rain delays and continues to progress with new work.  Major beams are poured in areas A & B; work will begin in Area C this week.  Underground plumbing and electrical are being closely coordinated to facilitate the concrete schedule.

 

Staff Sergeant Lucien Adams Elementary

Architect: MSV

Contractor: Daniels Building & Construction

Notes: Building design work is progressing, to complete on July 1.2009.  Rough grading is complete.  Storm drainage and structural steel shop drawings are in progress.  Building plans were delivered to the city.  We will start the storm sewer the week of September 14th.  Groundbreaking is scheduled for September 22nd.

 

 

Master Schedule Status

 

The overall Project’s forecast for construction completion date is now December 2010.  This is 9 months earlier that the original bond program’s plan of August 2011.  Further schedule refinement will take place as the design process completes and as construction contracts are awarded.  These will be incorporated into the Master Schedule and after reviewing the variables at each campus, the construction schedules will be modified accordingly. Demolition of abandoned structures will take place after this date.

Total expenditures through the end of July 2009 are $40,826,968

 

The Bond Program, based on costs expended, is 21.5% complete.
